چکیده
This paper presents a framework for implementing novel perfectly matching layer and infinite element (PML+IE) combination boundary condition unbounded elastic wave problems in the time domain. To achieve this, traditional hexahedral finite elements are used to model propagation inner domain IE test functions implemented exterior Two alternative implementations of PML formulation studied: case with constant stretching all three dimensions spatially dependent along single direction. The absorbing ability PML+IE is demonstrated by favourable comparison reflection coefficient plane incident on achieved using finite-element-only approach where stress free conditions at edge. Values function parameters selected based minimisation reflected amplitude it shown that same reduction can be approximately half number required approach.

Axisymmetric Scaled Boundary Finite Element Formulation for Wave Propagation in Unbounded Layered Media
Wave propagation in unbounded layered media with a new formulation of Axisymmetric Scaled Boundary Finite Element Method (AXI-SBFEM) is derived. Dividing the general three-dimensional unbounded domain into a number of independent two-dimensional ones, the problem could be solved by a significant reduction in required storage and computational time. The equations of the corresponding Axisymmetri...
متن کاملWell-posed and Discretely Stable Perfectly Matched Layers for Elastic Wave Equations in Second Order Formulation
We present a well-posed and discretely stable perfectly matched layer for the anisotropic (and isotropic) elastic wave equations without first re-writing the governing equations as a first order system. The new model is derived by the complex coordinate stretching technique. Using standard perturbation methods we show that complex frequency shift together with a chosen real scaling factor ensur...
متن کاملThe Ultra-Weak Variational Formulation for Elastic Wave Problems
In this paper we investigate the feasibility of using the ultra weak variational formulation (UWVF) to solve the timeharmonic 3D elastic wave propagation problem. The UWVF is a non-polynomial volume based method that uses plane waves as basis functions which reduces the computational burden. More general, the UWVF is a special form of the discontinuous Galerkin method. As a model problem we con...
متن کاملAn optimal perfectly matched layer with unbounded absorbing function for time-harmonic acoustic scattering problems
We introduce an optimal bounded Perfectly Matched Layer (PML) technique by choosing a particular absorbing function with unbounded integral. With this choice, spurious reflections are avoided, even though the thickness of the layer is finite. We show that such choice is easy to implement in a finite element method and overcomes the dependency of parameters for the discrete problem. Finally, its...
